I qualified as a Gestalt Psychotherapist in 2010. After 20 years in industry I was a schoolmaster for 15 years and my classroom experience has been invaluable in my clinical practice. I taught unhappy children and witnessed first-hand the struggles some children and teenagers face in the school environment and in their family lives. Consequently much of my work has focused on helping adolescents and young adults - an age group I am now so familiar with. This can be a challenging age and adolescent problems are often complex and lacking in obvious symptoms. The young person is defining who they are and how they fit into the world as an adult and their relationships with friends, family and particularly parents will change dramatically.

As a counsellor for HR departments, I have counselled employees from a wide spectrum of backgrounds, for stress, depression, bereavement and anxiety. My training and work with people in crisis over the past 17 years has given me insight into key life issues and invaluable experience of supporting people in their suffering by containing their anxiety and creating a safe space for them to explore their options, whilst helping them come to terms with where their life has taken them.

Prior to training as a psychotherapist I spent 20 years in the commercial property sector. Having immersed myself in a heavily goal-oriented environment I have always been interested in what influences our behaviours and choices; this inspired me to train as a psychotherapist. As part of my practice, I have come to appreciate the importance of relationships and how our earliest connections influence how we perceive ourselves and relate to others.
